Flower Ideas for Summer
Wedding Bouquets

Summer wedding bouquets are possibly the easiest to plan out of all of the seasons. In part this is because summer is the most popular time of year for weddings so the supply and demand market for flowers is vast.

And in part it’s because most flowers bloom in the summer months, giving you plenty of choices.

Summer wedding flowers and color schemes are usually more vibrant than spring color themes, although a great variety of wedding colors are acceptable for summer weddings so do as you please.

Popular summer wedding flowers

While the wide variety of summer wedding flowers does mean that you could have anything in your summer bridal bouquets, there are some varieties of flowers that are used more often for summer weddings:

Pink Gerbera daisies and roses make for perfect summer wedding bouquets.Daisies

For vintage weddings, beach weddings, afternoon garden weddings and more casual affairs, daisies are the perfect summer wedding flower.

Daisies are cheerful flowers that evoke nostalgia for a simpler life and the long summer days of childhood.

Choose from the larger Gerbera Daisy, in shades of pink perfect for summer weddings, to the more delicate Vero Daisies and Dutch Novelty Daisies.

Lilies

Large white and pink lilies look beautiful in summer wedding bouquets and mix well with greenery filler and other bridal bouquet flowers like roses.

Choose elegant Asiatic or Oriental Lilies, or the dramatic spotted hot pink Stargazer Lily.

Blue Hydrangeas and white lilies are the perfect combination for summer wedding bouquets and beach weddingsHydrangeas

The large Hydrangea flower blooms range in color from green and white to blues and pink.

They mix well with roses and are an elegant flower for the reasonable price point.

The blue hydrangeas are perfect flowers for beach wedding bouquets as the strong blue colors match the sky and the sea.

The large blooms also make for an impressive centerpiece at the head table.

Roses

Roses are great year round bridal flowers as they come in a variety of colors and are readily available.

For summer wedding bouquets choose vibrant pinks and yellows, or softer whites, creams, and the palest pinks in garden or English roses for a more natural bridal bouquet.

Summer wedding bouquets made up of tropical flowers like orchids are perfect for modern weddings and beach weddingsTropical flowers

Tropical flowers in bold shapes are a very modern statement for summer wedding bouquets.

Choose from a variety of Orchids as well as Bird of Paradise, Anthurium and Heliconia.

Additional summer wedding flowers

Iris, Snapdragon, Alstroemeria, Chrysanthemum, Forget-me-not, Zinnia, Gladiola, Sunflower, Statice, Stephanotis, Tuberose, Asters, Larkspur

Fillers for Your Summer Bouquet

Choosing the main flowers for your bouquet is only half the job. A bouquet made up exclusively of brightly colored petals could be too strong a color statement, so you’ll need to add some greenery to it to give your guests’ eyes a break.

Ivy leaf

ivy tends to be used at more formal weddings, so use it as filler in your bouquet if you’re looking for a traditional look.

Asparagus fern

this plant grows what look like green fuzzy fingers which will poke up through wider petals to break up the colors in your bouquet. It works well for a bouquet containing more delicate flowers like snapdragons or irises.

A cascading bouquet of orchids and roses are perfect summer wedding flowers for a traditional weddingCamilla leaves

These are broad leaves that are green on the outside and fade white on the inside.

Camilla leaves are also quite shiny so will add a certain sheen and sparkle to your bouquet.

Try pairing them up as a backdrop to some of the longer stemmed flowers.

Other fillers

Also consider tropical leaves, various ferns, vines, grasses, Queen Ann's Lace, English Lavender and herbs as fillers in your bridal bouquet.

Tips

The trick for successful summer wedding bouquets is to use what’s around you as inspiration.

Summer tends to be the season for garden weddings and receptions, so if you do take your celebration outside, try using some of the flowers in the yard in your bouquet.

If you’re planning an indoor wedding make sure you use color as your guide through the wide varieties available in summer.

Summer favors either bright and bold colors or calmer pastel shades, but the two shouldn’t be mixed.
