Find Your Wedding Site Locations Like The Pros in Film & Television

Searching for wedding site locations is a big task, but you can find your wedding venues using the same tool entertainment professionals use.

Whenever a production company needs to make a film, TV show or commercial in your area they must first secure a location.

If they don’t have a location manager familiar with the area, they will search the location data base on the website of their state or regional film office (film commission in some states).

You can also use this tool to search for your wedding site locations.

Many state film offices use ReelScout to power their location search, so go to www.reel-scout.com:

  • Choose US, Australia or Canada from the drop down menu on the left of the page.
  • Click on your state from the drop down menu.
  • Type a specific city into the form, unless you would like to see results from the entire state.
  • You can choose to narrow results in the Location Categories drop down menu by choosing from categories like "Beaches" or "Gardens," even "Museums" and "Public Art."
  • The next drop down menu will further narrow your categories architectural style and era, but this will limit your results a great deal, so choose this if you have too many results on your first search.

Keep in mind that some of these locations are private property and may not be willing to rent to you (only film companies).

The benefit of searching for wedding site locations through ReelScout or your local film office (or commission) is that you can find interesting locations for your wedding ceremony and reception that a general search for wedding venues may not reveal.

If ReelScout does not cover your state, Google your state and ‘film office commission’ and see if your film office website has a location search tool.

If your film office has no search tool, check your state or local tourism bureau for wedding sites.

Some tourism bureaus, like many for Florida beach towns, have dedicated sections on their websites for wedding venue location information.
